What is MIL-STD?

What is MIL-STD?

Prior to World War II, product quality standards in the armed forces were virtually non-existent. Many of the equipment systems that were developed ranging from aircraft to boats to ground equipment were fielded so quickly that they had little or no testing done for quality or ability to operate under environmental conditions. Following the end of the war, the military services saw the need to develop standardized procedures for testing equipment to qualify them for military use.

Initially, each branch of the service developed its own testing standards but by 1967 all three branches of the military adopted MIL-STD-810 as the ultimate product qualification standard. To keep up with the development and release of advancing test methodologies and technologies subsequent versions of MIL-STD-810 have been developed since its inception by the Air Force in 1962.

Many of the Panasonic Toughbook Laptops we provide at ToughbookOutlet meet MIL-STD quality and environmental condition standards. We explain the standards below:

MIL-STD-810G

MIL-STD-810H

MIL-STD-461F
