Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 Expansion Slots

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 has a variety of expansion slots that provide additional features through the use of expansion cards. Some of the expansion slots support older technologies that are still used by many Toughbook users today. The following expansion slots are installed on almost all models of the Toughbook CF-29:

2 - PC Card Type II or 1 - Type III

1 - SD Card (SD)

Let’s take a look at the type devices that each of these expansion cards support:

PC Card Type II

PC expansion cards are also sometimes referred to as PCMCIA cards and support a variety of devices. Common devices include wireless LAN cards, microdrives, ethernet cards, modems, FireWire ports, and mobile broadband cards.

PC Card Type III

This type of PC card functions pretty much the same as Type II cards but is twice as thick and was most popularly used with hard disk drives.

SD Card (SD)

Secure Digital (SD) cards are high density flash memory cards. Read/Write speeds can run as high as 60MB/s though average is about 30MB/s with SDXC cards while speeds on older SD cards ran at about 10MB/s. These cards initially had a memory capacity of 32MB when introduced but newer cards support capacities of up to 2TB. Common devices that use SD cards are car navigation systems, cellular phones, e-books, PDAs, smartphones, digital cameras, music players, digital video camcorders, personal computers, and laptops.
