Serial Port - FZ-G1

Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1 Serial Port

Sometimes called a D sub 9 pin connector, all Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1’s have an optional serial dongle available.

A serial port is an interface that allows for communication between two digital systems that transmit data one bit at a time. Serial ports are considered to be one of the most basic communications devices on a computer and were once a very common component on most computers but the technology is now more than two decades old and has been replaced by much faster communication ports like USB, Firewire, Ethernet, and wireless connections.

Common uses for serial ports were modems, networking, printers, and a mouse.

Despite the age of this technology, many of the industries that Toughpads cater to still use serial port connections, and because of that virtually all Panasonic Toughbooks and Toughpads come equipped with a serial port or give you the option of having a serial port installed.
